HYDERABAD: In its attempts to achieve a five-star rating and improve the city's position on the Swachh scorecard, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is disconnecting water connections of people who are damaging roads and littering public places.
GHMC commissioner M Dana Kishore on Friday inspected the Khairatabad zone and instructed officials to disconnect water connections of people littering places. "Two water connections (one household and one of an under construction building) were disconnected. In two weeks around seven lakh fines have been imposed in Khairatabad Zone,' said Md Musharraf Ali Faruqui, Khairatabad GHMC zonal commissioner. Inspections were also conducted in Puranapul, Ziaguda and parts of Old City.
The civic body also declared that they are collecting 5,280 metric tonnes of waste every day. "Of the waste collected we will convert 2,510 metric tonnes of waste into manure. GHMC is also stocking dry waste for production of electricity once the Jawaharnagar plant is ready," read a GHMC statement.
