Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has said that the State government is planning to introduce millets in the midday meals of government school children once a week and in Indira canteens as well.
After inaugurating a two-day district-level Organics and Millets Mela here on Saturday, Dr. Parameshwara said this move would help improve the health of people and also help organic farmers.
He said he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Agriculture Minister N.H. Shivashankara Reddy. He said there was a need to establish millets processing units in all the 10 taluks of Tumakuru district and directed the Deputy Commissioner to submit a proposal on it.
Dr. Parameshwara also visited Siddaganga hospital in Tumakuru to enquire about the health of seer of Siddaganga Mutt Shivakumara Swami.
