It's time for some good news, bad news. The bad news: Vikings is set to end after the upcoming sixth season, TV Guide has confirmed. The good news: History is already looking into a follow-up series with Vikings creator Michael Hirst.

Vikings is currently airing its fifth season, which is scheduled to wrap on Wednesday, Jan. 30. It became History's first scripted series when it premiered in 2013 and originally told the story of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking farmer who went on to become one of the most infamous Vikings in history. Based off actual historical events, the drama killed off Ragnar in its fourth season and has since transitioned to focus more on his sons, including Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh) and Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig). It also stars Katheryn Winnick as the fan-favorite shieldmaiden Lagertha, who was married to Ragnar in the early seasons but went on to become a queen in her own right.

Michael Hirst, who has written every episode of Vikings, is currently in talks with History and production studio MGM about creating a new series which would take place in the Vikings universe. No further details on what the series would entail are available at this time.

Vikings' 20-episode sixth season is expected to premiere later this year. If previous seasons are any indication, the second half of the season will likely air in 2020. Deadline was the first to report the news.

Vikings airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on History.
