If you’re a patron of sustainable fashion and Indian textiles, we’ve got good news for you. India’s leading designers are now showcasing an exclusive collection of khadi ensembles at One Zero Eight, a pop-up store in the heart of Fort Kochi in Kerala that coincides with Asia’s largest art event, Kochi-Muziris Biennale. An initiative of Ramesh Menon’s non-profit organisation, SaveTheLoom.org, the collection at One Zero Eight has been curated to pay a tribute to the 700 weavers and spinners whose houses and looms were destroyed during the Kerala floods in August 2018. The pop-up store will run till March 29, 2019.
Expect the likes of Abraham & Thakore, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ujjwal Dubey, Aneeth Arora, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Karishma Sahani Khan and Swati Kalsi at the concept space, all of whom have specially designed ensembles in khadi for One Zero Eight—proceeds from which will go towards aiding the handloom projects of SaveTheLoom.org. Meanwhile, designers like Adaveita Mathur, Aditi Dhar, Usha Devi Balakrishnan and more will be retailing their lines—with a special focus on handloom and khadi—at the store as well. What’s more, the space will also be home to various workshops and dialogues revolving around the handloom industry.
The One Zero Eight pop-up shop—designed and executed by Himanshu Shani of 11.11/Eleven Eleven, experiential designer Wasim Khan of Lemon Design, and Ramesh Menon and Alpi Boylla of SaveTheLoom.org—takes place in a 300-year-old heritage Portuguese home-turned-store in Aambal. Drop by the store to show your support to the handloom sector, and scroll ahead to take a look at some of its sartorial offerings.
