Wild animal population declines in Kenya, tourism alert

Around 2.3 million visitors entered the national parks and game reserves in 2017 and the Nairobi mini orphanage hosted the highest numbers at 367,671 down from 390,385 in 2016

 

Kenya National Bureau of Statistics latest abstract reveals the population of elephants, buffaloes, giraffes and ostriches declining rapidly in recent times.

 

 

The growth trend observed after 2015 started seeing a reverse after a 2,000 reduction in numbers. The population climbed 6,200 to hit the 22,000 in 2016.

 

 

The Grant’s gazelle population fell to 106,500 from 112,100 in 2016.According to official data there was  a gradual increase since 2013 when the numbered 111,700.

 

 

 

The number of zebra, impala , wildebeest saw a reduction in their population.

 

 

A Kenyan scientist in Germany in August 2018 raised an alarm over the declining wildlife population in Kenya which was due to the human-wildlife conflicts and climate change.
