UP Yoddha’s phenomenal run in Pro Kabaddi Season 6 was brought to a halt by Gujarat Fortunegiants as the latter completed a 38-31 win in Qualifier 2 at the NSCI SVP Stadium here on Thursday.

Gujarat Fortunegiants defeated UP Yoddha to enter the final of Pro Kabaddi
Mumbai:
Teenager Sachin Tanwar had a field day for the victor, picking up 10 points in total. Yoddha defender Nitesh Kumar, who ended up on the losing side, created history by becoming the first player in Pro Kabaddi to notch up 100 tackle points in a single season.
Sachin, whose 32% of points in PKL have come in the first quarter, got his side off to a flying start by picking up four raid points in the early stages of the contest. The 19-year-old put in successful raids and was never sent back to the bench during that period.
The opening ten minutes clearly belonged to the raiders as both teams’ defences managed only one point each. Gujarat held a slender three-point cushion during the halfway stage in the opening half. UP Yoddha defence slowly found its rhythm, inflicting a couple of ‘Super tackles’ in quick succession.
K Prapanjan was the culprit for Fortunegiants on both occasions. But a two-point raid from substitute Rohit Gulia ensured Manpreet Singh’s men had their lead back.
They forced the first all-out of the encounter in the nick of half-time, holding a five-point advantage going into the breather. The scoreboard read 19-14 in favour of Gujarat.
Fortunegiants asserted its dominance at the start of the second half, scoring consecutive points at will. UP Yoddha had a torrid time in between 20 and 30 minutes as it collected only a solitary point as opposed to Gujarat’s 11.
The men from Ahmedabad led by a huge margin of 13 points, with nine minutes remaining on the clock. There was drama as Gujarat conceded an all-out late in the contest, reducing UP’s deficit to seven points at 27-34.
But it had the experience to see the match through and enter the final. Earlier, Gujarat coach Manpreet made one change to his starting seven, with Rohit Gulia paving way for Iranian international Hadi Oshtorak.
By virtue of the victory, Gujarat qualified for its second final in two editions. After falling in the final hurdle last time around, it will once again have a crack at the title, but this time against Rohit Kumar’s Bengaluru Bulls.
