Canteen set ablaze after payment demanded from customers

Mangaluru: Asking for payment after having food led to miscreants setting a canteen on fire at Kapikad near Thokkottu on Thursday.
According to police, a group of youth had come to the canteen run by Abaid, a resident of Halekote, Ullal, on Thursday night. The accused are Rauf and his accomplices from Kumpala. The canteen was partially damaged due to the fire.

Police said that Rauf and his accomplices had food at the canteen. After eating, they tried to leave the place without paying the bill, but the alert canteen owner demanded that they pay up. Irked by this, the group set the canteen ablaze. A case has been registered at the Ullal police station in this regard.

Youth murdered

A youth was found murdered by unidentified men near Maladi Panjimogaru on Thursday night.

According to police, the victim is Rakesh, 26, the son of Yogish and a resident of Padukodi. He was working as a daily wage labourer. He is suspected to have been murdered between 8pm to 10pm on Thursday.

The victim was brutally assaulted, and sustained injuries to his head , hands and stomach. A case has been registered at the Kavoor police station and an investigation is on.


Woman asphyxiated


A woman died after food got stuck in her throat at Ivarnadu in Sullia taluk.


The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. Victim Damayanthi, 63, was the wife of late Neelappagowda. While she was having lunch, food got stuck in her throat and she complained of choking. The people in the house immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital in Sullia, but the doctors declared her brought dead. A case has been registered at the Bellare police station.
