Uber driver accidentally hands a wanted woman in to police after he took her to nearby station when she fell asleep drunk in his cab

  • Natalie Pierce had a warrant out for arrest for string of other criminal offences
  • After hailing an Uber, concerned driver took her to police station in Wollongong
  • Officers woke Pierce up, confirmed arrest warrants and remanded her in custody

A woman on the run from authorities was arrested after a concerned Uber driver drove her to a nearby police station, not realising she was a wanted woman.

Natalie Pierce, a paralegal from Wollongong on the New South Wales south coast, was found by officers passed out in the back of a car.

A warrant had been issued for Pierce's arrest on December 10 after she was convicted in Wollongong Local Court of two driving related crimes, one which involved the use of illegal drugs.

An intoxicated Pierce ordered an Uber with the intention of going home at around 8.30pm on December 29, according to court documents, the Illawarra Mercury reported.

Those plans were foiled when the concerned driver took her to Wollongong Police Station after she drifted in and out of consciousnesses in his vehicle.

Officers woke Pierce up moments later. She was then remanded in custody overnight.

The next day Pierce faced court where police opposed bail, outlining her previous warrants for not showing up to earlier court dates.

But Registrar Nicole Hoffman granted conditional bail, noting she is not likely to be sentenced to prison.

She must report daily to police, hand over a $500 surety and not drive a motor vehicle.

The arrest warrant was issued due to Pierce's failure to attend court to answer a charge of driving with an illicit drug in her system from October of 2016.

After crashing into two parked cars, Pierce fled the scene.

She was found by police asleep at a nearby creek an hour later, with a subsequent drug test revealing methylamphetamine in her system.

Pierce will return to court on January 8.
