Double delight for double-decker lovers
tnn | Jan 5, 2019, 00:56 ISTCoimbatore: It’s gonna be double dhamaka for the city residents who want to enjoy a double-decker bus ride. Buoyed by the huge response to the ‘Double Takkar Bus’ initiative received last year, when it brought just one double-decker bus, this year’s event would feature two such buses.
The first bus, an yellow one, which is open for the public, has a capacity to seat 25 people. It starts at VOC Park, takes a U-turn at Lakshmi Mills Junction and turns around at Avinashi Road flyover. The ride takes approximately 20 minutes.
The second bus, which will be green, would be operational in two days. It would run from Codissia to Neelambur and cater to bulk bookings from schools and other institutions, organizers said.
People who travelled in the bus on Friday said they had missed it last year and were happy to take the ride this time. “We really wanted to take the ride last year. But it was booked fully on all days. When we came to know about the bus this time, we grabbed our seats as soon as the bookings started,” said R Gowtham, a graphic designer who took the ride along with his family.
People were seen taking selfies and enjoying an elevated view of the buildings and meeting spots on Avinashi Road that they otherwise pass at eye-level daily. “This is the first time I’m noticing the Thiruvalluvar statue on Avinashi Road flyover,” said G Sivaramakrishnan, an IT professional, who took the ride.
What they say:
I wanted to travel in the double-decker last year itself but couldn’t get a seat. I wish there is a permanent double-decker bus service in the city. I think Coimbatore deserves one as it is the fastest-growing non-metro city – P S Aravind, TNPSC aspirant
The elevated view was amazing, and we got to see the same places that we daily pass by from a new angle. We came as a team from our office. People on the road too were excited and they waved at us – G Sivaramakrishnan, IT professional
This is the first time I’m travelling in a double-decker bus. It’s like a long-time wish has come true – M Uma Devi, Homemaker
The ride was very enjoyable and refreshing. My kid liked it so much that she didn’t want to get down when the ride was over – Prasood Srinivasan, IT professional
