Cops arrest man with suspicious meat

AMBALA: The district police arrested a Shahbad resident identified as Ajay Chawla with meat, which is suspected to be beef, on Ambala-Delhi National Highway on Wednesday night. A case against the accused has been registered at the Parao police station. A police official said the accused was arrested during a routine checking on the national highway.
A case has been registered against Ajay Chawla under Sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease) and 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Station house officer (SHO), sub-inspector (SI) Bhushan Dass said, “We had received a call on Wednesday night informing that a person is carrying meat suspected to be beef on a motorcycle without registration number from Shahbad side. The accused Ajay was nabbed after setting up a checking post. The motorcycle has been taken into custody along with the recovery of suspected beef tied in a sack.”
“A team of doctors would be called upon to inspect the meat and the samples would be sent to the Hisar lab. The accused was presented before the court, which sent him to judicial custody. Further probe into the matter is ongoing,” the official added.
