KOLKATA: The Class XI girl who jumped from the terrace of her north Kolkata school on Wednesday afternoon, died later in the evening, despite all efforts by doctors to revive her. The girl’s brother refuted the claims that she had taken the extreme step for the sake of a mobile, saying she already had one.
“We are shocked and traumatized at our sister’s death. I am not in a position to talk now. But I can only say my sister already had a mobile phone. So anybody who is saying she killed herself because we did not buy her a mobile phone, is lying,” said the brother.
The school suspended all classes on Thursday as a team of cops from Amherst Street police station visited the school to question the authorities and also inspect the spot from where she jumped. Among those to be questioned, was the school guard, who had spoken extensively to the media after the incident. “We have not received any complaint so far. But the family has sent out a signal that they might be lodging a formal complaint soon,” said a senior officer.
“We have registered a case. We spoke to teachers and the principal. We will speak to the family in a day or two,” said an investigating officer.
