- Kerala has been marred with violence since the afternoon of January 2 after two women of menstruating age managed to enter Sabarimala temple.
- Kerala has been witnessing massive protests since the state government decided to implement the September 28 order of the SC allowing women of all ages to enter the centuries-old temple.

KANNUR: Even as tension prevailed in some parts of Thalassery in Kerala's Kannur district following the harthal over women’s entry in Sabarimala, the houses of local MLA AN Shamseer (CPM) and of former CPM district secretary P Sasi were attacked by country-made bomb on Friday night. Bombs were also hurled at the ancestral house of BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Muraleedharan in Thalassery at around midnight.
According to police, the attack on Shamseer’s house at Madappedika happened at around 10.15pm. The attackers came on a motorbike and escaped from the scene after hurling the bomb. The MLA said he was attending a peace meeting following the tension in some areas of Thalassery when his family informed him about the attack.
“I think there is a deliberate attempt to ignite tension, and there is a conspiracy with the knowledge of the BJP leadership,” he said.
Though the family members were at home, no one was injured but the water tank in the house was damaged, he said.
The house of Sasi, in Thalassery town, was targeted around 11pm. The windowpanes were damaged in the attack. Sasi, who was expelled from the party, was taken back only in July 2018.
Meanwhile, a CPM worker, identified as CK Vishak, suffered stab injuries at Iritty. He has been taken to the hospital.
Earlier in the day, the houses of a local CPM leader and RSS leader had come under attack at Thiruvangad in Thalassery.
According to police, the house of CPM Thalassery area committee member Vazhayil Sasi was targeted around 5.45pm by a gang that came on four motorbikes. After hurling crude bombs and terrorizing the scene, they attacked the house, destroying the household items, furniture and also causing major damage to the house. There was nobody in the house at that time.
Within minutes the house of senior RSS leader Kolakkodu Chandrasekharan in another part of Thiruvangad also came under attack in the similar manner.
Police have increased vigil following the tension.
