T.T.V. Dhinakaran-led AMMK too announces its nominee; ruling AIADMK yet to finalise candidate.

The DMK on January 4 announced the candidature of Poondi K. Kalaivanan for the Tiruvavrur by-election necessitated by the death of party chief and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

In a statement, DMK president M.K. Stalin said the nominee had the support of the party’s allies, including the Congress.

Mr. Kalaivanan is the DMK’s Tiruvarur district secretary, a powerful organisational post in the party.

The T.T.V. Dhinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) announced S. Kamaraj as its candidate for the bypoll. He is the AMMK’s Tiruvarur district secretary.

The ruling AIADMK is yet to announce its candidate.
