Dry fruit vendor held for credit card fraud

Pune: Officials of Chatuhshrungi police have arrested a dry fruit seller involved in cheating people by cloning their cards. The arrested accused was identified as Bablu Mohammad Khan alias Shahbuddin, who hails from Bihar.

The police had earlier lodged a case of cheating against three persons who were selling dry fruits for allegedly cheating a senior citizen of Rs 3.53 lakh through card cloning. The 68-year-old complainant told the police that he lost the amount from his account and blamed the dry fruits seller for skimming his card details to make a clone card before robbing him of the money. After cloning the card, the accused withdrew money from an ATM in New Delhi.

Senior Police Inspector Dayanand Dhome of Chatuhshrungi police said around 30 such complaints were registered at the police station. 

“Our team received a tip-off that the prime accused in the case Shahbuddin is in Thergaon and accordingly our team nabbed him. We produced him in court and the accused is remanded in police custody till January 10,” added Dhome. The police said the gang was active in Baner, Pashan, Aundh and Sangvi. 

The accused would sell dry fruits at cheaper rate and ask people to pay through card. After skimming the information of the card, the accused would clone them to withdraw money. The police team included Inspector Vaishali Galande, Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Thenge, Narayan Palampalle, Police Sub-Inspector Prem Waghmore and policemen Digambar Potdar, Shrikant Kudale, Sachin Kamble, Sachin Gaikwad, Vinod More, Nikip Rathod and Dnyaneshwar Mule.
