Pathanamthitta continued to be rocked by violence for the third consecutive day on Thursday in the wake of the entry of two women in the restricted age group to the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple on Wednesday.
Seven persons were injured when two motorcycle-borne miscreants hurled country bombs at a mobile phone shop near the Parthasarathy temple in Adoor town at around 11.30 a.m. on Friday. The assailants wore headgears and left the spot immediately after the attack, the police said.
The police are examining the CCTV footage collected from the surrounding areas.
The injured
The police identified the injured as Shajaz, 31, shop owner; Renju, Vijayakrishnan, Shibu Sivarajan, Siyad, employees at the shop; Muraleedharan, and his wife, Sudhakumari, customers. They were admitted to the General Hospital at Adoor with burns and injuries.
The Adoor police have registered a case following the attack.
Traders in Adoor town downed their shutters and observed a hartal on Friday afternoon, in protest against the attack on the shop.
As many as eight houses belonging to the CPI(M) and RSS workers were attacked in and around Adoor on Thursday night. CPI(M) area committee secretariat member T.D. Baiju’s house was among those attacked.
The CPI(M) office at Kodumon was attacked on Thursday night and the house of a BJP worker was also attacked at Paranthal, near Adoor, on the same night.
