HYDERABAD: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 40kg of Alprazolam worth 2.40 crore during checking of vehicles on Nagpur-Hyderabad highway at Kamareddy bypass road on late Wednesday night. Two people were arrested.

DRI officials said based on a tip-off, a Volkswagan Polo was flagged down and two bags of Alprazolam, which is known as party drug, kept in the luggage boot were seized. The drug was being transported from Gujarat to Hyderabad.

"A deeper investigation needs to be done to establish whom the drug was being supplied,'' DRI officials said.

The two accused previously used to stay in the suburbs of Hyderabad and later moved to various places in the country.

The value of seized Alprazolam in the grey market will be around 2.40 crore. We also seized the car. From the papers seized from the accused, it looked they had changed their place of residence,'' DRI sources said.

Party drug made in Gujarat

Officials ruled out the possibility of the consignment to be meant for pharmaceutical companies in Hyderabad and in all probability it was to be supplied to some individual. The party drug was manufactured in Gujarat and there is a link between the source of the drug and the end user.

The persons, whom the officials nabbed, are middlemen. DRI officials would get in touch with Telangana police to know whether the accused are repeat offenders. The accused are under arrested.
