The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has decided to collect a user charge of ₹50 each from flats in gated communities and apartments for collection of garbage at the doorsteps.
In accordance with Municipal Solid Waste Rules-2016, a corporation resolution was passed on Wednesday to collect the user charges for garbage collection, a release issued by the GVMC quoted Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan as saying.
Sanitary inspectors, supervisors, health officers and zone commissioners may collect the user charges and issue the receipts to the payees.
The user charges are being collected for collection and transportation of garbage and its scientific disposal and meet the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the official release added.
