Harassed by youths, girl, dad jumps into canal

Picture used for representational purpose onlyJAIPUR: Harassed by eve-teasers, a 15-year-old girl allegedly jumped into a canal with his father in Hanumangarh on Wednesday. No clue about their alleged suicide was found despite several rounds of search by divers.
The police said that the 38-year-old man, a farmer had given a complaint at Sadar police station against three youths. ‘The man alleged that these youths had come to his house about five months ago as painters to colour his house. Ever since then, they were troubling his daughter, including stalking her to school and passing lewd comments,” ASI Heera Lal told TOI over phone.
The sources said that the family had called the suspects to home and warned them. One of the youths said to have misbehaved with the family, and even threatened to blackmail the family. A brief scuffle also ensued between family and youths. After meeting with her daughter’s harassers, he decided to file a complaint.
SHO Jagdish Prasad claimed that his team had gone to nab the suspects named in the complaint but could not locate them. While police team kept returning empty handed, the man took his minor daughter into a car and headed towards a canal on Wednesday. The man called up his relatives and informed about jumping into the canal. The police have also recovered a car said to be driven by the father.
Speaking to TOI, Prasad said that efforts are being made to locate bodies but in vain. The shocking incident had put Hanumangarh police in dock as angry relatives questioned as to why no action was taken despite a complaint being filled against the named youths. “So far we are relying on phone calls to assume that they had jumped into the canal, no other clue was recovered so far,” an official added.
