Residents of Ranga Colony and State Bank Colony, Rajakilpakkam, are concerned about the increasing population of stray dogs in their locality. They say they are scared of stepping out of their houses, especially after sunset. They have sought effective implementation of the Animal Birth Control programme in the locality.

“It is common to see stray dogs roaming moving around in groups and scavenge around the piles of garbage dumped by residents.”

“The conservancy staff collect the domestic waste on a regular basis. Yet, a few residents throw garbage onto the roads, drawing dogs,” says M. Kumar, a resident.

The area abutting the carriageway on Ranga Colony First Cross Street is nothing short of a dumping ground.

“At times, the garbage mounds are being burnt in the neighbourhood. A foul smell emanates from the stretch and we are unable to open the windows. Many residents face health problems including irritation of eyes and cough due to burning of garbage,” he adds.

Residents have complained about these issues to the Sembakkam Municipality officials have gone in vain.
