Trader found burnt, kin suspect murder

MOHALI: In a case of suspected murder, a 40-year-old businessman was found burnt in a factory in Industrial Area Phase-I, Mohali, on Thursday morning.
The family members of victim, Nagender (40) of Balongi, alleged that he was first murdered and then set on fire.
Cops said the investigation is on to find out if it’s a murder or suicide. Cops are also investigating the financial angle in the case.
According to the police, Nagender had a small factory in Phase VI, Mohali. He hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Bolongi with his family for the past few years. The incident took place between 8am and 9am when a factory worker saw Nagender on fire and informed his employer who further informed the cops around 9 am. Police have found kerosene from the spot and also found presence of kerosene in the trunk of his scooter.
Besides, there are certain numbers scribbled near the spot and it is suspected that Nagender had jotted them down in his final moments.
Babita, wife of the victim, said her husband had given lakhs of rupees to many persons and now he had been after them to get back him money. She alleged that one of the persons, whom had taken money from Nagender, murdered him.
Atul Gupta, friend of the victim, alleged that Nagender was first murdered and then set on fire. He claimed that there were no sign of resistance at the spot and the victim was lying in one position while on fire.
‘Had lent money to people’
It’s still a mystery why Nagender, who had his factory in Phase VI, had gone to a factory in Industrial Area Phase-I. Atul Gupta said it is Nagender friend’s factory where the body was found.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amarjeet Singh, who is investigating the case, said, “Family of the victim told us that Nagender had given lakhs of rupees to many people and his wife suspected that one of them might have murdered her husband.”
“After recording her statement, we have started further investigation. At present we have initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. However, the investigation is going on in the case. If we find anything suspicious, we will investigate accordingly,” said the ASI.
The cop said, “We will integrate persons who have borrowed money from the victim.”
Box: Looted at gunpoint Family members of the victim said six months ago, some unidentified miscreants had snatched around Rs 1.5 lakh from Nagender at gunpoint outside a bank in Phase-VII, Mohali. Nagender had lodged a complaint with police in the matter.
