A Division Bench of the High Court on Thursday asked the police to explain why the private vehicle carrying members of a Chennai-based women’s group, Manithi, was allowed to ply from Nilackal to Pampa when there was a court directive not to allow private vehicles on the route.
The Bench comprising Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon and Justice N. Anilkumar passed the order when a report submitted by the panel of observers came up before the court.
The court orally observed that if the police had allowed the private vehicles of Manithi members to Pampa, it was a violation of the High Court order.
SPC’s nod?
The court wondered whether the police had got permission from the State Police Chief on the issue.
The police officer at Nilackal could not satisfactorily explain why permission was given to the vehicle of Manithi, according to the report.
