The modular Y-shaped, 828 meters tall Burj Khalifa was officially opened on January 4, 2010. The skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was designed by Adrian Smith, of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The design was inspired by Hymenocallis flower - the towering structure is three sectional around a central core. The building, when viewed from above, is like onion-dome - a design found in Islamic architecture. The building comprises of 162 floors and 3 basement levels, is designed in a manner to increase residential and hotel space.
