NEW DELHI: Four days after a 16-year-old girl was found murdered at her home in a west Delhi locality, police claimed to have cracked the case and arrested a 34-year-old man from the neighbourhood. Police said the girl was killed for resisting a robbery bid.
The accused was identified as Parvinder Singh, a resident of Vishnu Garden. According to DCP (west) Monika Bhardwaj, cops received a call around 9.30pm on December 31 that a girl had been found murdered in Vishnu Garden.
Police found that entry to the house was friendly. They gathered information about the family’s relatives and neighbours and found that a man, later identified as Singh, had been loitering around in the area. He was detained and after several rounds of questioning, he broke down and confessed to his crime.
Singh led the cops to a blood-stained knife, a pair of plastic gloves, looted jewellery and Rs 18,000 in cash. He said that the family trusted him blindly and he visited them often. Last week, he had seen the girl’s mother keeping jewellery in the almirah and decided to steal it.
He entered the house around 7pm and when the girl confronted him, Singh strangled her with a nylon rope and slit her throat.
Singh then fled with the loot.
