MANGALURU: Strengthening of beat policing at the grassroots level and laying stress on people-friendly policing are the two main focus areas in Dakshina Kannada district, said newly-appointed superintendent of police Bhadravathi Madana Kumar Laxmi Prasad.
During his maiden interaction with the media here on Wednesday, Prasad, who expressed that it’s challenging to work in Dakshina Kannada district, said that beat policing across the jurisdiction will be increased.
Asked about what strategy he wants to follow in the communally-sensitive district, he said that nothing is impossible when people and the police join hands to preserve peace and harmony. “All the districts in Karnataka are sensitive, but Dakshina Kannada district is extra-sensitive. According to me, if the people and the police maintain a good relationship, 50 per cent of the issues will be resolved, while the rest is looked after by the police themselves,” he added.
Laxmi Prasad pointed out that he will look into the issue of illegal sand mining, and will take necessary action against those involved in it. He also asked the public to give information about any illegal activities that are taking place in Dakshina Kannada district.
He added that one of his friends introduced him to the civil services examination while he was working at a private firm in Bengaluru after completing computer science engineering. “I realised that as a police officer you meet people from all walks of life and also understand about their life. Now I have a better understanding about society,” he said.
