T'gana govt allots Rs 500 cr for modernisation of powerlooms

The government has allotted Rs 500 crore for modernisation of powerlooms in the textile town of to give a fillip to the textile industry and the powerloom weavers in the region.

Speaking after inaugurating a four-day buyer-seller meetorganised by the here Thursday, Handlooms and Joint Director said the meeting would provide an opportunity to power loom manufacturers to expand their markets, an official release said.

"All the government orders are being given to them to help increase their earnings," he said.

(Regional Office) Bengaluru, said the textile industry was the second largest after agriculture, providing employment to lakhs of people.

He noted that the government was organising buyer-seller meets at various places in the country to provide market support for the development of the powerloom sector.
