Biker and 6 of his aides who assaulted 2 cops arrested

MUMBAI: A day after two policemen were assaulted in Andheri, seven people were arrested for the crime. The key accused, Jogeshwari resident Noman Karodia (28), and six others—onlookers and some of his relatives—have been booked for allegedly attacking inspector Gajanan Sargar and constable Sagar Punwilkar (28) after he caught Karodia riding without a helmet.
Officials of Amboli police station claimed that when the constable asked Karodia to pay a fine, he got into an argument with the constable. on Wednesday. Karodia allegedly stabbed Punwilkar’s hand with his key, , causing blood to spurt out and leaving his hand bleeding. The police claimed that Karodia then tried to flee from the spot. “Karodia’s shirt was stained with blood which oozed out of the constable’s hand,” said an official.
Senior inspector of Amboli poice station Bharat Gaikwad claimed that Karodia then started to scream, saying that the policemen had physically assaulted him. A crowd of people gathered at the spot as he continued to shout, said the police.
The police also claimed that the inspector suffered a fracture to the finger after being attacked by the crowd. Karodia was taken to hospital and was discharged after which he went into hiding, they said.
The seven arrested persons have been sent to police custody till Saturday. TNN
