Jharkhand cabinet approves rollout of Mukhyamantri Sukanya Yojana Scheme

RANCHI: In its first meeting of 2019 on Thursday, the state cabinet approved two pro-poor announcements made by chief minister Raghubar Das when he completed his fourth year in office on December 28 last.
The Das cabinet, which met at Project Building in the evening, approved the rollout of Mukhya Mantri Sukanya Yojana (MMSY). The scheme, which is aimed at women empowerment, provisions financial grants of Rs 5,000 to the girl children of over 36.57 lakh families from poor sections after their birth, at various stages of school education and the threshold of teenage.
Briefing reporters about the meeting, cabinet secretary SKG Rahate said beneficiary families have been selected based on the 2011 Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) and Antodaya ration card holders. “A girl child will get Rs 5,000 within two years of her age. Then, Rs 5,000 will be given when she enters class one and enters the sixth standard. Likewise, Rs 5,000 will be given when she will pass classes eighth, 10th and 12th. Girls aged between 18 and 20 years, will receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000,” Rahate added.
The cabinet also approved the commissioning of pipelines for drinking water supply in Garhwa district and gave administrative approval for disbursement of Rs 1,169.28 crore for the project. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay foundations of the project from Daltonganj on Saturday. Water from Soan and Kanhar rivers in Bihar will be delivered through three pipelines for drinking water and irrigation needs in 15 blocks in Garhwa, Palamu and adjoining districts.The cabinet also approved a Rs 155.42 crore proposal for a drinking water supply project in Littipara and its surroundings in Pakur district.
In another decision, the 11-member ministerial council approved the state department of agriculture, animal husbandry and cooperative’s proposal to distribute smartphones to 21,878 farmers registered under e-NAM. The government said it was the first phase of distribution, which will eventually be extended to 28 lakh farmers statewide so that they can remain updated about weather condition, agricultural advice of experts and status of agri-markets around the country.
