The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development has constituted a task force to take cognisance of the incidents of suicides by students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), an official statement said.
The task force will be chaired by Jitendra Nagpal, a psychiatrist.
It will not only look into the circumstances leading to the suicides of students residing in the hostels of the JNV residential schools but will also suggest measures to prevent them, the statement added.
The JNVs are fully residential schools managed and run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
Meanwhile, the HRD Ministry has sought the Department of Expenditure’s approval for a proposal to engage two full-time counsellors (one male and one female) in each of the 630 JNVs.
