Around 40 kgs of Alprazolam, a sleep-inducing drug given to blood pressure patients, worth Rs 2.4 crore was seized in Kamareddy district of Telangana and two people arrested in this connection.
Alprazolam is a psychotropic substance notified under the provisions of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Possession of large quantity of the drug attracts punishment under the Act.
On specific intelligence, a team of DRI officials intercepted a car on Nagpur-Hyderabad Highway on Wednesday night and recovered 40 kgs of alprazolam during the search, a release from the DRI's (Hyderabad Zonal Unit) said here. The drug was found packed in two bags concealed in the boot of the car.
The car carrying the contraband was coming from Gujarat and bound for Hyderabad, it said adding the narcotic drug has been seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The drug is valued at around Rs 2.40 crore in the black market, it said adding two persons involved in the illegal transport in this case have been arrested besides the car was also seized.
Investigation is on, it said.
