1,230kg of plastics seized in two days in city
tnn | Jan 4, 2019, 01:14 ISTCoimbatore: In the past two days, the city corporation has collected 1,230kg of banned plastic items from public and shopkeepers in all the five zones of the city limit.
While the corporation has seized 776.5kg of banned plastics by inspecting shops, it has collected 453.5kg of plastics from the public through its collection drive. As much as Rs 1.52 lakh was collected as penalty amount for possessing and selling the banned plastics.
While the officials had managed to seize 468.5kg of plastics from shops and 331kg from the public on Wednesday, they have seized only 290kg from shops and 112.5kg from the public on Thursday. The drive would continue for a few more days and the collected wastes would be sent to a cement factory in Madukkarai to use it as one of raw materials, said a corporation official.
Meanwhile, the public were also directed to handover the plastic items at zone corporation office.
