HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for the murder of his 80-year-old father four months ago.

The case came into light in August last year, almost three days after the murder, when the deceased, Syed Mansoor Ali’s body was found in his house in Pardagate in King Koti.

“The neighbours complained of a stench from the deceased house in August. Our team broke open the door and found Mansoor’s decomposed body. We suspected that the murder had occurred three days before the body was found,” said inspector Ramesh Kumar of Narayanguda police. In the investigation, Syed Mustafa Ali, son of the deceased, was considered as the prime suspect. Mansoor was on the run since the incident. “We found that the accused Mustafa was earlier suffering from mental illness and was under treatment for that,” added the officer.

Reportedly, the unemployed Mustafa was asked by the deceased to do something to earn his living and stopped giving money to him. Enraged, the accused murdered his father.

On the night of August 16, Mustafa smashed his sleeping father’s head with a large piece of rock. Then, he locked the door from outside and escaped. “He was on the run for nearly four months. On Wednesday we got information from neighbouring houses that the accused was seen near his house at Pardagate,” Ramesh pointed out.

The accused was picked up and nterrogated, where he confessed to have committed the murder. Mustafa was booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
