PUNE: A skywalk between Good Luck chowk and the entry-exit of the Deccan Gymkhana Metro station on JM Road is being considered for the benefit of pedestrians and commuters.
The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro), which is implementing two Metro corridors in the city, said the facility has been proposed from Good Luck chowk as the Metro won’t run on FC Road. “A direct walkway will help commuters from FC Road to avail of the Metro service,” MahaMetro officials said.
The officials said discussions regarding the project and its execution were being held between the MahaMetro and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). “Details pertaining to the landing, layout and construction are also being discussed and will be finalized soon,” the officials said.
The MahaMetro, meanwhile, has started the construction of Metro viaduct in the Deccan Gymkhana area. “The Metro viaduct is coming along the river. The Deccan Gymkhana station will come up on the riverfront, behind the bus stop of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML),” a MahaMetro official said.
The Deccan Gymkhana Metro station will be located near the river and there was a plan to provide its entry and exit points on JM Road. “Locations for the entry and exit points of Deccan Gymkhana station have been finalized,” the official said.
He said a detailed plan was being chalked out to provide infrastructural facilities for commuters. “This is because commuters’ footfall may go up in the Deccan Gymkhana area after the inception of the Metro services. Steps are being planned to provide better services to commuters by building a skywalk and two bridges across the river,”the official added.
Cable-stayed bridges
The MahaMetro is also working on providing two cable-stayed bridges, which will go across the river and connect JM Road to the Peth areas. “The bridges are being planned for commuters from the Peth areas since the Metro won’t run on the other side of the river. The bridges will come up near Deccan Gymkhana and Sambhaji garden Metro stations,” the official said.
