RAJKOT: Following a 12-hour-long struggle, rescuers on Wednesday managed to bring out a lioness from 50-feet-deep well in Dhoklva village of Gir Gadhda taluka in Gir Somnath district.

The eight-year-old lioness has been sent to Jasadhar animal care center for further treatment. The animal had fallen into the well on Tuesday night.

According to forest department officials, they received the call on Tuesday night about the incident. A team of forest officers reached to the spot and launched the rescue work.

Assistant Conservator of Forest, Nikunj Parmar told TOI, "We started to pump out the water at 5 o'clock in the morning and it took almost five hours. Thereafter a team went inside and tranquilised the animal and saved her.”
