NOIDA: A 28-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself on Tuesday. No suicide note has been recovered.
The man has been identified as Pankaj Kumar, a resident of Sector 30’s Nithari village. He lost his job at a McDonalds outlet about four months back and was unemployed ever since.
According to relatives, Pankaj sent his wife and two children to visit his sister Mamta, who lives nearby, and locked himself inside the house around 6:30pm on Tuesday.
“Pankaj told his wife Priyanka and his kids that Mamta had called them for a visit. After they left, he locked the room from inside. When Priyanka arrived at the house some minutes later for some work, she found the door locked. After Pankaj didn’t open the door despite repeated knocks, the door was forced open with the help of neighbours. Priyanka entered the room and saw her husband hanging from the ceiling fan by a cloth,” Rekha, a relative, said.
Pankaj had recently taken a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw. “We suggested that he drive the auto, but he gave it to someone to drive on rent basis. He lost his job about four months back. We don’t know what triggered the suicide,” said a relative.
No police complaint has been filed. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday afternoon and the report is expected on Thursday. “It appears to be a suicide, but the reasons can be explained once the post-mortem report is out,” said Manoj Pant, SHO of Sector 20 police station.
