The family members of deceased sub-inspector Devendrasingh Rathod on Tuesday, demanded that police authorities dismiss the deputy superintendent of police (DySP) and lodge a complaint against him in the matter. Rathod's kin have refused to accept his body saying they will only accept it when a complaint is lodged.
Thirty-five-year-old PSI Rathod committed suicide on Monday morning. He killed himself with his service revolver in his residence. The police recovered a suicide note that contained allegations against DySP of the Karai academy NP Patel. Rathod alleged in the note that he was driven to take the step due to constant mental torture and harassment by Patel. The note further read that Patel should be dismissed with immediate effect and should be jailed for life.
The Sola Police declined from lodging a complaint against the DySP.
Rathod's family members said, when they reached the Sola Police Station to file a complaint against the DySP relying on the recovered suicide note, the police were not ready to lodge one. They even refused to give Rathod's family a copy of his suicide note.
According to police officials, they will first analyse the allegations made in the note and then, lodge a complaint.
The PSI's family members then reached out to the city police commissioner's office on Tuesday. They met CP A K Singh. Singh assured Rathod's kin that not only will a complaint be lodged but also a team will be formed to investigate the matter.
Twenty-four hours after Rathod's death and postmortem at a civic-run hospital, his family members refused to accept his body. They protested outside the hospital demanding the DySP's immediate dismissal and an official complaint against him. They also demanded that the deceased's wife should be provided with a government job and due compensation from the state.
A team consisting of ACP, PI and PSI were made by the city police commissioner and DCP Zone-1 to investigate the allegations made by Rathod. The team was sent to Karai academy on Tuesday, where statements of Rathod's colleagues were recorded. That apart, DySP NP Patel's statement was also recorded. The police also recovered CCTV footage of the Karai campus to assisst them in their investigation.
