Over 1 crore Bengali refugees living outside Bengal

KOLKATA: Even after 70 years of the Independence, about 1.5 crore Bengalis are still looking for shelter in various parts of the country. These homeless Bengali refugees are struggling in states like Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, UP, Assam, Bihar, and Andaman. Recently, Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanvay Samiti had shared the details on Bengali refugees in India.

Now because of NRC, they are on the verge of losing their citizenship also. According to the data, close to 35,000 refugee have been living in Karnataka. In Chhaittisgarh's Bastar, there are about 1 lakh Bengalis.

President of Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanvay Samiti, Subodh Biswas said, "This is not a good news for the Bengali diaspora." He mentioned the recent killing of 5 Bengali men in Assam's Tinsukia.

"People of West Bengal should come and help these refugees," said Bharat.

UP and Uttarakhand: 25 Lakh

Odisha: 30 Lakh

Madhya Pradesh: 11 Lakh

Jharkhand: 5 Lakh
