CHANDIGARH: A day after the announcement of Jind byelection, the AAP opted out of the contest on Tuesday.

Haryana AAP in-charge Navin Jaihind said, “We have decided to not to contest here as we want to concentrate on Lok Sabha and assembly elections. We will not even support any party.”

Jind byelection had been necessitated following the death of INLD MLA Hari Chand Midha in August this year.

Meanwhile, other political parties have started searching for candidates.

BJP leaders are expected to meet the top brass in New Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday to finalize the candidate. Similarly, the Congress, Jannayak Janta Party and INLD have also started the process to shortlist aspirants for the byelection to be held on January 28, which will the last electoral contest before the parliamentary elections.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said Jind bypoll would give a new direction to party in the state.

INLD state president Ashok Arora said the party would announce the candidate latest by Friday after Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala would address the joint meeting of workers of INLD and BSP.

“Midha ji was our MLA. With a view to retain the seat, we shall finalize the candidate accordingly,” he said.

State Congress president Ashok Tanwar said the party would finalize its candidate by Saturday. “Winnability is the criteria and we prefer the candidate who had been out in the field over the period of past four-and-a-half years. This election will be milestone of the Congress of getting back to power in the state,” said Tanwar.

Notably, JJP supremo and Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala had already announced that their party would make its electoral debut from Jind byelection.
