GURUGRAM: The state unit of Congress party on Wednesday joined the protest by local BJP leaders, accusing the state government and its officials of illegally releasing a prime, three-acre plot in Sector 12A of Gurgaon, demanding a high-level probe in the matter.
Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar said the party will hold a massive protest on Friday against the chief minister and burn his effigy. “It’s a major scam worth hundreds of crores, and many senior BJP leaders in the Khattar government may be involved,” he alleged.
On December 31, senior BJP functionary Anil Yadav, whose wife Sunita Yadav is the deputy mayor, accused the state government of returning a prime three-acre plot worth over Rs 100 crore in Sector 12A to its owners. Yadav alleged the land owners, in nexus with senior DTCP officials, not only got the land released 31 years after it was acquired by the state government, but also managed to get a licence to develop a group housing society on it.
Earlier, the Mayor and other loyalists of Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh had accused chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar of bias, and of purposefully neglecting Gurugram. On Wednesday, Ashok Tanwar alleged the chief minister claims to be honest, but his ministry has committed a huge land scam. “Vigilance department had probed the case, but its report was rejected by the state government, which has bent all norms to benefit one person,” he said.
He added if the state government doesn’t order a probe in the alleged scam, Congress will make it a poll issue. He directed party workers to come out on roads on Friday in large numbers and join the protest against the chief minister, demanding the probe. “The commercial value of this prime land, which has 32 Huda plots, is Rs 2,000 crore. The developer will build a highrise society and sell flats, earning huge profits,” alleged Tanwar.
Former power minister Ajay Singh Yadav of Congress told TOI the matter should be probed by the public accounts committee (PAC) and wrongdoers brought to books. He said the state government is patronising corrupt officials instead of taking action against them. “People of Haryana will teach the state government a lesson in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
