Astronaut Calling Houston Has a Problem, Accidentally Dials 911 from Space

You know how some work phones are annoying — and you might have to hit 9 first to dial out?????Well, normally that’s no big deal — but a Dutch astronaut had a snafu while trying to do that from space and accidentally called 911.????André Kuipers was trying to contact NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, but, uh, he had a problem.????And instead of dialing 9 — followed by 0-1-1 to call internationally, Newsweek reports he must’ve missed the 0….????Alerting emergency staff to the room where his phone line connected back on Earth.????So wait — is an office phone more complicated than a spacecraft?????Kuipers learned about the slip-up via email, and according to a Dutch broadcaster, the NOS, he reportedly joked: “I was a little disappointed that they had not come up.”????But 9-1-1 isn’t the official emergency number in the Netherlands — so hey, maybe his error will raise awareness for Dutch travelers to the US…????In a real emergency, you wouldn’t want anyone to end up in a Little Rascals scenario.??
