A class one officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was stripped of his duties on the grounds of sheer negligence, on Monday. Dr Amit Begda was issued a final show cause notice regarding the termination of his services on May 25, 2018. Begda was serving as a deputy health officer in the civic body.
Begda, who was serving in the AMC since August 18, 2007, had applied for leaves for 48 days starting April 17, 2017 to June 3, 2017. He further asked for an extension of his leave till August 2, 2017 citing fractured ankle as the reason. When higher authorities demanded a medical certificate, Begda failed to produced the same despite several reminders. When he was served the show cause notice for termination, Begda submitted his resignation.
On November 28, 2017, the municipal commissioner had proved all the irregularities on him.
Begda was also called for a personal hearing but he failed to appear for the same. The AMC's Industrial Relation Department has approved the case of departmental inquiry. The standing committee this week will approve the termination letter.
