Vadodara: M S University has become one of the four universities in the country which has been identified as a regional university that will scrutinize journals under University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (Care) project.
With a view to refining and strengthening its approved list of journals, the UGC in its 536th meeting on November 14 last year had established CARE.

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune, has been entrusted with the responsibility of journal analysis for the purpose of Care.

Further, the commission has identified four regional universities to facilitate the process of receiving proposals from institutions in their region concerned for consideration of inclusion of journals in the Care List of Journals.

The MSU has been entrusted with the job for the entire western region, while Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, has been assigned the job for the northern region. The University of Hyderabad has been entrusted with the responsibility of the southern region, whereas Tezpur University has been assigned the same responsibility for the eastern region.

“The four universities will receive proposals from various universities from their respective regions for the consideration of inclusion of journals in the Care List of Journals. These four universities will undertake primary scrutiny of the journals, and if found appropriate, they will forward the details of journals to SPPU, Pune, for the final analysis,” said a communication sent by the UGC’s joint secretary, Dr Archana Thakur, to MSU vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas.
