96 fined in Ahmedabad for attending nature’s call in open

AHMEDABAD: Attending nature’s call in the open can invite fines. The Ahmedabad Municipal corporation has on Tuesday fined 96 people who were caught attending to nature’s call in the open. A fine of Rs 7,250 was collected by the AMC in a single day.
The solid waste department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation stated that during the routine check-up some 96 people were caught attending nature’s call in the open. The AMC team collected a fine of Rs 7,250 from these 96 people.
A senior officer said that in one case, a rickshaw driver pleaded and stated that he had no passengers since morning and hence he was not able to even meet the fuel expense. As a token he offered to pay Rs 10 as a fine and the officials accepted the fine with an undertaking that he would not do it in open next time.
Harshad Solanki the director of solid waste department said, “We have formed 48 teams of three officials each and these officials are constantly moving in the area allotted to them. We have asked them to collect a minimum fine of Rs 50 to Rs 100.”
A senior officer from the department said that the fine varies depending on the person. If the person is educated and well-to-do the fine collected can even be Rs 500 but if the person appears to be poor the fine is Rs 50. tnn
