PUNE: The crime branch of Pimpri police on Tuesday arrested a criminal in connection with a four-year-old armed robbery case in Bhosari.

The police have identified the suspect as Mujahid Ibrahim Auti (25) of Kuldeep Angan, Nehrunagar in Pimpri. The crime branch (unit-I) of the Pimpri Chinchwad police led by inspector Uttam Tangade made the arrest.

The suspect and his three accomplices on January 27, 2015 had assaulted and robbed one Prakash Sawant of Thergaon on Telco Road. A case of armed robbery was registered with the Bhosari MIDC police station.

The police had arrested three suspects Amar Chauhan of Pimpri, Rahim Chaudhari of Chinchwad and Prashant Thakur of Kalewadi. “But the suspect Auti was on the run,” Tangade said.

He said that on Tuesday during the patrolling, police constable Sunil Chaudhri received a tip-off that Auti would be coming near Magar Stadium to meet a person. “We laid a trap and took the suspect into custody,” Tangade said.

During the questioning, Auti has admitted his involvement in the armed robbery. “We have handed him over to the Bhosari MIDC police for the further probe,” Tangade said.
