Two women swept away in Narmada canal

Vadodara: A woman and her daughter are feared dead after they got swept away in the strong currents of the Narmada main canal near Halol. The duo was washing clothes in the canal when the incident took place.

Ila Parmar (37) and her daughter Anita Parmar (15) from the Rameshara village in Halol taluka of Panchmahal district had gone to the canal to wash clothes around noon on Wednesday. The canal passes near Rameshara and several villagers use it for washing their clothes and bathing.


Anita’s foot slipped and she fell in the canal. Seeing her being swept away by strong currents, Ila too jumped into the water to save her. But even the mother was dragged away by the water flowing in the canal. Other villagers who were present near the canal raised an alarm and called the Halol fire brigade. Personnel of the fire brigade rushed to the spot, but were not able to find them.tnn
