Carbon Nissan GT-R Is About Reducing Weight, Not Increasing Power

When the R35-generation GT-R was revealed, Nissan famously claimed that its computers were so advanced, tuning companies would be unable to modify the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6. And the reality proved them wrong.

In the decade since the GT-R hit the market, it has become an absolute favorite among tuning companies looking to create straight-line monsters and owners looking to build hypercar killers without breaking the bank. Consequently, we regularly come across GT-Rs with well over 1000 hp and, sometimes, even more than 2000 hp.

However, simply modifying the GT-R’s engine wasn’t very appealing for one owner in the United Kingdom, who instead decided to create the lightest GT-R imaginable. Doing so cost a lot of money, but the finished product is a GT-R unlike any other.

Every single piece of exterior bodywork of the car is made from premium carbon fiber, including the hood, doors, fenders, and bumpers. This results in a significant weight saving of 310 pounds (140 kg), but the weight savings didn’t come cheap. In fact, the owner spent roughly $76,000 to create his dream ride.

That money could have easily been spent on a pair of beefed-up turbochargers and numerous other engine upgrades, but that wouldn’t have resulted in a such a unique GT-R. And besides, if he so wishes, he can always tune the V6 engine, too.
