Mumbai: The history of world sports is filled with siblings who have both made name for themselves and their countries on a similar dias. International there are aplenty, and India is no exception. However these Nahar’s siblings in Chess could be the first of its kind who together have made country proud in the international arena.
Born in Mumbai, Rajveer and Anaishaa emerged as the shooting stars in the game. Playing in the under-19 and 7under-6 catagories respectively, the elder of the two, Rajveer won the gold while her younger sister Anaishaa added the silver lining to their campaign at the recently concluded 35th Singapore National Open Age Group Chess Championship organized by the Singapore Chess Federation.
Rajveer, a student of Vibgyor High School, Goregaon returned unbeaten as he rounded up the eight-round contest with 7.5 points in the under-9 section. In the process, Rajveer, who is ranked third in India held Singapore’s Goh Zi Han, the highest ranked player in the competition. This performance, saw Rajveer boost his ratings by 69 points.
His sister Anaishaa, was not far in her venture in this championship. Anaishaa, a II grade student from Vibgyor school, missed the gold as she finished with 7 points for the silver in the under-7 section. Our son and daughter have been doing exceedingly well and that makes us very happy.
It makes us all the more proud as their successes prove that Indian kids are doing extremely well in sports in India and on the world stage,” the elated parents, Rekha and Pinkesh about their kids. Nivaan Khandadia, who is one of India’s youngest rated chess players, was placed first in the under-6 category. Nivaan trains extensively under the watchful eyes of Sandilya.
