Madhya Pradesh 'Vande Matram' row: Amit Shah accuses Congress government of appeasement

NEW DELHI: BJP chief Amit Shah on Wednesday attacked the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh for suspending the practice of reciting the national song, Vande Matram, in government offices on the first day of every month.

Singing of the national song in the 'Mantralaya' or secretariat on the first working day of every month had been the norm since the time of erstwhile Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of the BJP.

Congress government is turning Madhya Pradesh into a centre for appeasement, Amit Shah said in a Facebook post.

"The decision of MP government to stop singing of Vande Matram is unfortunate and shameful," the BJP chief said.

The song Vande Mataram is not for any community but is a symbol of sacrifice made by the soldiers for the independence of the country, he added.

The BJP chief asked Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stand on the issue and asked if this decision was his.
