Mysuru city welcomes New Year in style

Mysuru: Mysureans welcomed the New Year with fun and cheerfulness as the district administration illuminated Mysuru Palace and showcased a splendid fireworks’ display which lit up the night sky.
On the New Year Eve, hundreds visited Mysuru Palace in the evening where cultural programmes were arranged by the district administration and the police band entertained the visitors.
To ring in the New Year, the palace lightings were turned on for nearly 15 minutes from 12am amid colourful display of fireworks for nearly 30 minutes which mesmerized the crowd. A few revellers distributed cakes to people to celebrate the occasion. Celebrations were also held at various hotels, clubs and party halls across the city where fashion shows, dance and music programmes were held till 1am.
However, on the first day of the New Year, people visited Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills and Yoganarasimhaswamy Temple in Vijayanagar to offer prayers. Yoganarashimaswamy temple management distributed two lakh laddus and puliogare prasada to devotees.
Special pujas were also held at various temples including Sri Lakshmivenkataramanaswamy Temple at Vontikoppal, 101 Ganapathy Temple, Annapporneshwari Temple at Hebbal in the city where people stood in queue from morning. Special prayers were also held at churches.
There was also huge rush at the palace, zoo and exhibition grounds.
