The Hornbill will be based on the new Advanced Modular Platform (Alpha ARC), the same platform that the 45X hatchback will be based on
The micro SUV segment is emerging as the next battlefield for the four-wheeler industry. With Maruti Suzuki and Datsun already showing off concepts for their micro SUVs, Tata Motors' concept, the Hornbill or X445, has been spotted being tested on the streets of Erode, Tamil Nadu, by YouTuber, Out of Office.
The Hornbill will be based on the new Advanced Modular Platform (Alpha ARC), the same platform that the 45X hatchback will be based on. Based on Tata's Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, the car will be under 4 meters in length but will command a truly SUV-like stance.
While the car is completely camouflaged in the video, you can see a raked roofline and a very boxy design at the rear. The SUV could be powered by same powertrain options as the Tata Tiago.
Tata's Nexon was a strong contender in the compact SUV space and with most manufacturers entering the segment, the Hornbill will make the SUV segment more accessible to people looking for more while not burning as big a hole in the pocket.
The Hornbill is not slated to be launched before 2020 and users can expect a fairly low price tag in the Rs 5-8 lakh range.
