UP: This year, 34 holidays for govt schools

ALLAHABAD: The state government has approved 34 holidays for government primary and upper primary schools affiliated to or recognised by Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board. Last year, the Central government had directed the states to celebrate National Unity Day to commemorate the birthday of Sardar Patel, following which this year Sardar Patel Jayanti has been accommodated in the holiday list Ruby Singh, secretary, UPBEB, on Tuesday said schools would be open on the days marked to commemorate the birth anniversary of great personalities but no educational activities would be conducted. The schools would closed on festivals.
“Last year, we received complaints that schools were closed after holding events after which it has been decided to take strict disciplinary action against the principals or head masters concerned,” she said. The district magistrates are not allowed to give more than two holidays during local events.
As per the timings decided by the Board, studies would be conducted from 8 am to 1 pm during April 1 and September 30. Similarly, the schools would opened from 9 am to 3 pm during October 1 to March 31. Only female teachers and girl students would be allowed to take holiday on Karwa Chauth, Haritalika Teej, Sankatha Chaturthi and Lalai Chatth.
